CHRISTINE J. McKENZIE

Biography

Christine

I was born in the tiny town of Tongala, Victoria, Australia. My early education was at Dawes Rd. Primary School, Kyabram, and Girton Grammar School in Bendigo. I did an undergraduate degree in Science Education (1980-1983) and an Honors degree in Chemistry (1984) at The University of Melbourne. An apparent knack for research won me a Commonwealth Postgraduate Research Award to continue Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Professor Richard Robson where I synthesized palladium complexes of sulfur-containing multinucleating ligands and investigated their catalytic properties. In 1990, I came to Odense University in Denmark and a post-doctoral position with Professor Hans Toftlund where my interest in the biologically important transition elements was sparked. I was appointed to an Assistant Professorship in 1994, an Associate Professorship in 1998 and a Full Professorship in 2005 at what was by this point renamed to The University of Southern Denmark. My life in Denmark has been very busy. Besides teaching and making many new compounds, I have made two children.
